Mort's Dock was constructed in 1854-1855 by T.S. Mort, to provide Sydney with expanded port facilities. In 1866 Mort entered into partnership with Thomas McArthur, and the firm subsequently made large additions to the dock and widened the scope of its activities from ship repairing to shipbuilding and engineering.
